Why Locals Love Café El Colibrí
Nestled in the lively neighborhood of Las Fuentes in Zapopan, Café El Colibrí is a culinary treasure that masterfully blends an eclectic array of flavors spanning Mexican, Italian, and American traditions with a healthy twist. This vibrant restaurant, bar & grill, and breakfast haven offers guests an inviting space to savor dishes that are as visually stunning as they are delicious, making it a top destination for locals and travelers seeking a genuine taste experience.
The menu at Café El Colibrí is a delightful journey through savory and sweet delights. Start your meal by indulging in their famous Las Fajitas – tender strips of your choice of meat sautéed with olive oil, fresh jitomate, purple onion, and rich, confit red peppers, all served with soft, warm flour tortillas. For something truly emblematic, the Pollo con Mole stands out: succulent chicken breast bathed in their house-made, lightly spicy mole, topped with toasted sesame seeds, softened purple onions, and roasted plantain, culminating in a perfect harmony of smoky, sweet, and spicy flavors.
If you lean towards comforting classics, the Pollo a la Crema — tender chicken bathed in a luscious creamy sauce — is a cherished favorite, adored by regulars like Sathiya for its velvety finish that lingers delightfully on the palate. Meanwhile, light starters such as the Champiñones al Ajillo offer a savory and aromatic introduction, with mushrooms sautéed in garlic, jitomate, guajillo chili, and topped with parmesan cheese alongside garlic bread.
The indulgence continues with sweet treats that perfectly round out the dining experience. The Buñuelos, delicate rolls filled with guava and cream cheese, dusted with cinnamon and sugar, and paired with tangy jamaica sauce and Italian-style ice cream, offer a luscious finale to your meal. For breakfast or a casual snack, the fluffy Hot Cakes served with maple syrup, chantilly cream, and fresh strawberries are irresistible.
Café El Colibrí’s atmosphere is both cozy and vibrant, infused with a welcoming energy ideal for everything from a lazy weekend brunch to lively gatherings with friends. Guests like Luis Castañeda praise the place for its buzzing yet comfortable environment, advising visitors to brace for the weekend crowds but reassuring that every moment spent waiting is well worth the feast. The attentive, friendly service complements the experience, with staff ready to offer recommendations tailored to your tastes — a fact that Evan Nickell appreciated during his multiple visits.
Whether you're indulging in the signature Chilaquiles with Goat Cheese topped with your choice of chicken, chorizo, or eggs, or sipping on the aromatic and richly spiced Café de Olla, every bite and sip at Café El Colibrí tells a story of quality, passion, and authenticity. Despite a relaxed pace in service that favors leisurely dining over quick bites, this is a place designed to foster connection and savor, making it a beloved spot for gatherings and memorable meals alike.
With its central location on Av. de Las Fuentes, easy access, and a menu that caters to vegetarian, health-conscious, and traditional palates alike, Café El Colibrí stands out as a must-visit culinary gem in Zapopan. This is one gem in the city you need to visit, the location is pretty nice, but be aware that going on a Saturday and Sunday might take some waiting time as it get crowded, however it's worth every single second. Food it's just amazing, I highly recommend trying the Chilaquiles with Goat Cheese, you can top them off with chicken, chorizo or eggs. But every single dish I've tried there it's amazing. Servings are big, and it's very famous for it's Cafe de Olla, a must try.

We stayed in a hotel right next to Café El Colibrí and were told that we should try it. The waiter spoke decent English and had good recommendations. We ordered a bunch of different things and actually visited 3-4 times during our stay. The Café de Olla is delicious and worth trying for sure. The service was good and the environment is nice as well. Some of the art is a little questionable though. They have tons of options and will serve breakfast (and lunch and dinner I think) at any time of day. The food is delicious the prices are decent and the service is great I highly recommend visiting!

Very good light to a sumptuous meal. The place is very apt for conversation. Has a good varierty of Mexican and American options. The service is slow for someone in hurry or quickbite. It is ideal for a lazy weekend stop for breakfast. The coffee olla is tasty and my favourite Chilaquiles. It is one of few places they sell the Indian fav Migas.

Our favourite dish here is the creamed chicken. The white sauce is very good.

The restaurant has delicious food, the place was clean and service was fast. There was a bit of a time wait, however I do not change the fact that I waited to go in and eat... the food was amazing! The location was central point for my friends and I since we haven't meet in a while. Thanks for having us

Everything I tried was fantastic. And the prices good too. Expect a wait though, place is popular! (For a reason)

One of our favorite restaurants to have breakfast for more than 20 years now. We ve tried all the menu any option will be worth the wait. Cafe de Olla is so good but forbidden for diabetics since it is extremely extremly sweet.
